Facilities at Sandhills Farm
At Syd Hosie Racing, we believe exceptional facilities play a vital role in helping racehorses reach their full potential.
A first-class training environment
Located in the heart of the Dorset countryside, Sandhills Farm has been continually developed and improved to provide a first-class training environment. Every aspect of the yard has been designed with the welfare, education and development of our horses in mind.
Our horses benefit from a comprehensive range of private training and schooling facilities, allowing us to tailor individual training programmes and maintain consistency throughout the year.
Our training facilities
All of our gallops are privately owned and maintained, providing complete flexibility in how we train our horses. This allows us to adapt each horse's workload to suit their individual needs without relying on external facilities.
5 Furlong Carpet Gallop
Our 5-furlong carpet gallop provides a consistent all-weather surface, allowing horses to train effectively throughout the year. It is an important part of our fitness programme and is used extensively for routine exercise and faster work.
Deep Sand Circular Gallop
Constructed using specialist drainage techniques, our deep sand circular gallop performs exceptionally well in all weather conditions. Designed to encourage strength, balance and fitness, the gallop remains usable throughout the winter months and forms a key part of our training programme.
Fibre Sand Hill Gallop
Our fibre sand hill gallop is invaluable for developing strength, stamina and cardiovascular fitness, particularly in National Hunt horses preparing for the demands of racing.
Grass Gallops
The grass gallops provide horses with the opportunity to train on a natural racing surface and are used extensively throughout the season as part of their preparation for racecourse conditions.
Schooling Ring
Our dedicated schooling ring provides a safe and controlled environment for educating young horses and developing the confidence and technique of both novice and experienced jumpers. The ring plays a key role in preparing horses for racing over hurdles and fences.
Schooling Lanes
Ahead of the 2026 season, we further invested in the yard with the installation of dedicated schooling lanes. These facilities allow horses to school in a professional environment, helping them gain valuable experience and confidence before progressing to the racecourse.
EasyFix Hurdles & Chase Fences
Our schooling facilities have been enhanced further with the addition of EasyFix hurdles and chase fences. These modern obstacles provide a professional standard of schooling and allow horses to train over equipment similar to that used at racecourses across Britain and Ireland.
Continual investment
Sandhills Farm is constantly evolving. From improvements to gallops and drainage systems to the addition of new schooling facilities and equipment, we are committed to investing in the future of the yard and ensuring our horses receive the highest standard of preparation possible.
Combined with experienced horsemanship, individual attention and a dedicated team, these facilities provide an outstanding environment for racehorses to develop, thrive and perform on the racecourse.
We welcome prospective owners and visitors to come and see the facilities for themselves and experience life at Sandhills Farm.
